CELEBRATING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

Picture
This month we celebrate women's history.
One of the biggest issues we face as women is the wage gap. Women earned 59% of the wages men earned in 1963; in 2008 we earned 77% of men's wages.. But if you look at women under 25, they earn over 92% of men's wages which is a positive sign for the younger generation. In 2009, President Obama signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which allows victims of pay discrimination to file a complaint with the government against their employer within 180 days of their last paycheck. Women have made enormous progress in the workforce since the Equal Pay Act, but the fact remains that four-and-a-half decades later the basic goal of the act has not been realized.

DREAM BIG - NEW LA STARTUP BETTYVISION

Meet new LA startup Bettyvision, founded by Jule Thorne Engels.
Backed by an angel-funded seed round, Bettyvision is a free online vision board community that provides women of all ages a platform to pursue their dreams. Tuesdaynights is proud to introduce Bettyvision as sponsor of our inaugural event..

Why did you start Bettyvision?
Julie Thorne Engels: I've always believed in the power of vision boards, especially when they're reflective of your heart's desires.  Once your dreams are on "paper" it's harder to deny you have them.  However, it's not always easy to make them come true for a variety of reasons from low-self esteem to lack of resources, tools and community.  Bettyvision was started to provide a centralized community to inspire women and girls to visualize and accelerate their dreams.  Most importantly, I want achieving goals to feel exciting and be accessible to everyone.
